The centaurs are half-man, half horse, having the torso of a man extending where the neck of a horse should be. They were said to be wild, savage, and lustful. Chiron was known for his knowledge and skill with medicine, and thus was credited with the discovery of botany and pharmacy, the science of herbs and medicine. It is an archetype for healing powers.
